As the world's population increases, many changes will be necessary. These changes are needed not only in our societies. In order to sustain a growing population, we must also make changes in the way we manage our most precious asset - the earth.

One change we must make is the way we use earth's resources. More people on earth will mean more mouths to feed. This is especially critical in third world countries where starvation is a real threat to survival. In these areas, land must be conserved so that there is always enough fertile land for farming. This applies to water as well. Clean, drinking water is essential for survival. We must also protect areas with forests. Forests clean earth's air and are home to many types of wildlife. Protecting and conserving earth's resources will be a big step to sustaining a growing population.

With an increasing population, there will also be more pollution. We must do all we can to fight this pollution, especially in urban areas. We must encourage people to drive electric or hybrid cars to reduce greenhouse gases. Also, everyone must do their part to recycle their waste. Recycling will help to keep earth clean and decrease the manufacturing of new products. By taking these steps in reducing pollution, we will allow more people to live on the planet comfortably.

Finally, we must develop new sources of energy. Currently, our main source of energy comes from oil that is brought up from the ground. This oil will soon dry up. However, there are many other sources for energy. Energy can be collected from the sun using solar panels. Wind can power engines to make electricity. Even dams can be built to draw power from rivers. Developing these types of alternative sources will ensure that we will never run out of energy.

The earth is our home. And it is getting more crowded each passing day. Just like our family homes, we must take steps to clean and protect it. By doing so, earth will be able to support its growing family of people.

The earth's population is exploding. In November, 2011, there were seven billion people on earth. Just fifteen years from now, there will be eight billion people. In order to sustain this population boom, our societies must change. Here are three areas in which we can improve our societies so that we can sustain the world's growing population.

The first problem with a growing population in society is the elderly and the poor. As the population increases, there will be more elderly people. The elderly must be given proper healthcare so they can live with a high quality of life. This means that new medicines must be discovered. Hospitals must be built or renovated. There will also be many more poor people on the planet. Governments must support the poorest of their citizens by creating programs to help them. These programs must help those people who cannot afford to food, clothing, and shelter.

Another problem in our society is urbanization. As we move into the future, more people will begin to live in cities. This will cause major overcrowding in very small amounts of space. To address this, governments must develop the suburban land surrounding cities. They must develop the infrastructure building roads and mass transportation systems to reach these areas. This will encourage communities to develop further from the heart of cities. In this way, everyone will be able to live comfortably without overcrowding.

Finally, we must make an effort to improve technology in all areas of life. Improving technology will help alleviate problems due to overpopulation in many ways. For instance, innovations in farming will produce more food. This will help ensure no one goes hungry. New technologies in construction will be able to provide housing to millions of more people. Through more powerful computers and the Internet, people will be able to work at home. This means they can live anywhere they choose, and not just in crowded cities. These and other improvements in technology will be essential to sustain the world's population.

Our societies must adapt to the increasing number of people on earth. Overpopulation is a serious and growing problem. However, it can be managed. We can sustain the world's growing population.

The first step you can take is to educate yourself about the endangered animals in your home country. You can read up on the specific species that are endangered. How many animals remain? What is their natural habitat? What is the cause of their population decline? Answering these questions will give you a firm understanding of the problem the animals face. After learning more about endangered animals, you can take action. You can research organizations and services in your community that help save endangered animals and protect wildlife. Do you enjoy visiting the zoo to see the wonderful, wild animals? Soon, the zoo may be the only place to see them. Today, thousands of species of beautiful creatures are close to extinction. How can they be saved? Every country must take action to help save their endangered animals. Here are some ways.

First, countries must have stiffer penalties for hurting or killing endangered animals. Sadly, many endangered animals are prized for their special features. Some animals are hunted and killed for their fur. Sometimes, they are poached to make medicines, or even as a delicacy. Governments should make it a severe crime to kill animals that are nearing extinction. Governments can also ban the sale of products that are made from these animals. All foods and products should be closely inspected to guarantee that endangered animals were not harmed.

Second, countries must take actions to rebuild the population of their endangered animals. For some animals, their numbers are already extremely low. For those threatened animals, countries must create plans and services to boost their populations. For instance, countries could start a program to breed endangered animals in zoos. Humans can take care of the offspring until they are ready to be released in the wild. They can also hire more veterinarians and animal care providers to take care of the injured animals they find. These steps can aid in lifting the population of threatened species.

Lastly, countries must designate wildlife areas and reserves solely for endangered animals. Because of the growing population of people, land is being taken away from animals native to those regions. This land is used to make homes, roads, and buildings. To solve this problem, parks and forests must be made or set aside exclusively for animals without a home. These areas will give the endangered animals a safe place to live and breed. Hopefully, providing a safe haven will help to increase their population.

Rare and endangered animals are a national treasure. Unfortunately, they are in terrible danger. Soon, it may become too late to save them. Every country in the world must do their utmost to protect these valuable, endangered animals.

Vegetarians Benefit Socitey - Pro

LEXILE: 820

Can you imagine a world where no one ate animals for food? Many people live in this world right now. They are vegetarians. There are many advantages to becoming a vegetarian. Let's look at how vegetarians help the lives of three types of people: farmers, doctors, and everyday consumers.
How do vegetarians benefit farmers?

For farmers, more vegetarians in the world would be a benefit. Many types of fruits and vegetables that vegetarians desire are more expensive than meats. If there were more vegetarians, farmers could grow more of these types of crops. They would then be able to earn much more money. It also takes a great deal of time, energy, and money to raise and breed animals. Farmers must feed the animals daily and make sure they are always in good health. Farmers who grow only fruits and vegetables need not worry about the welfare of living animals.

Vegetarians are also a help to doctors. A doctor's duty is to keep people healthy and free from disease. In this sense, vegetarians make a doctor's life much easier. Vegetarians consume far less cholesterol and fat. This means that doctors will see fewer patients who are obese or have heart problems. Obesity is one of the beigest causes of poor health in people. Also, people who eat only fruits and vegetables have a lower risk for many types of cancer. Doctors will need to worry less about the health of these patients.

Finally, how does becoming a vegetarian affect everyday consumers? Becoming a vegetarian aids them greatly. First, it will improve costumers'' overall health. Abstaining from eating meat will keep them in better shape by reducing the intake of animal fat. There is also less chance of catching dangerous diseases that are caused germs and viruses in animal meat. Also, vegetarians help to reduce animal suffering. Farm animals live in miserable conditions and then are killed just to be eaten. Vegetarians can be proud to know that they have saved the lives of many helpless animals.

Besides the health benefits of being a vegetarian, there are many other great reasons. As you have read, becoming a vegetarian helps not only consumers, but also the people whose lives they touch.

Since the beginning of time, people have eaten meat. Many vegetarians, however, believe this is we should eliminate meat from our diets. By doing so, we are not only harming ourselves, the consumer, we are harming others as well.

Vegetarians hurt the livelihood of farmers. Many farmers rely on raising livestock such as chickens, pigs, and cattle to earn a living. If more people become vegetarians, it would be extremely difficult for these farmers to switch to growing fruits and vegetables. Fruit and vegetable crops also need more land to grow. Farmers will be forced to spend money to buy more land. Also they will need to hire more workers to harvest the crops. Farmers who raise animals will be hurt financially.

The lives of doctors will be much harder as well. Vegetarian patients will require attention to their special needs because their unique diets. Doctors must also educate themselves on the special needs of vegetarians. Also, because vegetarians may not eat a full, balanced diet that includes meat, doctors must keep a watchful on their diets so that they consume the proteins and other nutrients that they need. Supervising patient's diet makes it harder for doctor's to care for more serious diseases.

What if you were to become a vegetarian? For ordinary consumers, it is not a sensible choice. People are naturally omnivores so eliminating meat is unnatural. You will be deprived of nutrients that come from animals. These include proteins, oils, and amino acids, which help to keep bodies strong. Your diet will be unbalanced. Also, you may believe that you are helping animals by not eating meat. However, if no one ate meat, livestock animals such as chickens and cows would not survive in the wild. They would quickly go extinct.

Vegetarians may claim that animals should not be eaten. They may claim they are healthier. The truth is that by becoming a vegetarian, you are not only harming your body, you are making the lives of farmers and doctors more difficult as well.

Advertising is a benefit to the public 2

LEXILE: 730
WORDCOUNT: 347

Like all things in life, advertising has its good and bad points. This is true for both businesses and the media. But for ordinary people like you and I, how does advertising affect us? There are many issues to consider.

In many ways, advertising is a benefit to the public. Advertising help to inform people about products and services. Without it, people may be unaware of a great new product or service.  In that way, advertising can help to educate people.

However, its effects on the public are not all positive. Advertising can be a negative influence.
First, there is too much of it. Everywhere you turn, there is a billboard or poster for a new cereal or shampoo. Advertisements are a nuisance. Also, advertisements can be dishonest. The goal of any advertisement is to persuade people to spend their hard earned money. Commercials create a fantasy about a product. If you buy this refrigerator, it will say, you will turn rich and beautiful. These advertisements try to pressure and deceive people into buying expensive, luxury items that are completely unnecessary. The public must be careful to consider both the good and points of advertising.

One part of the public has special concerns when it comes to advertising. These are children. Advertising affects children differently than adults. Like adults, children can find out some wonderful new toy or store through commercials. Advertising is even fun for children. Many commercials aimed at children are entertaining. However, children lack wisdom and judgment and are likely to believe everything they see and hear. A child may see a bright, shiny new toy in a commercial and may see his friends playing with it. This will create jealousy in the child. He may cry and beg his parents to buy it for him. In this case, the advertisement can cause a serious strife in a family.

Advertising may be necessary for businesses, but for people, it is both a blessing and a curse. The next time you see an advertisement, make sure you consider you are tempted by it!
